Once a Want has been added by a buyer it is indexed into our system. AbeBooks automatically checks the books that are added and updated when you upload a file.
There are two ways you can find out more about the buyer's Wants:
- The email you receive regarding your book being matched
- By browsing the Books Wanted
An AbeBooks Customer wants your Book
When you upload a file, AbeBooks compares your updated listings to the Wants registered in the system. Once a match is made, it triggers two emails; One to you as the bookseller and one to the buyer, notifying both that a match has been made.
The Wants are matched based on the information the buyer has added. Various details can be added to Wants by the buyer and these are matched such as:
- Title
- Author
- Publication date
- Publisher
- Edition
You can see these emails in your AbeBooks account.
In the email you receive you will be informed that an AbeBooks customer may want your book. The email will also provide you with a link to the book online. If there are several books with matches, you will be provided with a link for each match.
These emails do not require any action on your part and the buyer is not obliged to purchase the book. We generate these emails as they can provide you with an insight into what type of books buyers are interested in.
If you no longer wish to receive the Wants emails you can remove this setting in your account.
To do so:
- Sign on to your bookseller account
- Under [My Personal Information] click on [Account Details]
- You will then see the 'Email Matches' and you can change the setting to 'No'
