AbeBooks searches the description field of your book data for specific attributes which are linked to our Advanced Search attributes. This is called Description Parsing and ensures that your books are included in the Advanced Search results.
The description parser searches for specific book attributes, such as:
- Signed
- Hardcover
- Softcover
- Dust Jacket
- First Edition
We recommend that you use Description Parsing to describe what your book IS, as opposed to what it is NOT.
For example:
- This book is a hardcover from 1933
If you have description parsing enabled, this will mean the book will appear in the search listings when the buyer filters the results for "Hardcover".
- Though a beautiful book, it does not have a dust jacket
This sentence will mean that the book, despite not having a dust jacket, will appear in the search results for books with dust jackets, as it includes the word "dust jacket".
If you do not wish to have Description Parsing enabled we can switch this function off. Please contact our Customer Service team team to do so.
