As a bookseller or a buyer on AbeBooks you may be searching for a specific book that is currently not listed on AbeBooks. Through your account you can add and manage an unlimited number of Wants.
There are two ways to upload and manage your Wants:
- Though the Members Menu in your AbeBooks account
- By using HomeBase 2.3 or HomeBase 3.0
Managing Wants through your Members Menu
From your Members Menu there are two methods you can use to add your Wants. You can add Wants individually or by uploading a file.
To add Wants one-by-one click on [My Wants]
- Then click [Add new Wants to your Want inventory]
- Enter your search criteria and click [Add Want]
- To update a single Want:
- Locate the Want and click [Update this Want]
- Make the desired changes
- Click the [Update Want] button
You can also upload a file with a list of Wants:
- Click on [Upload Want Records]
- Press the [Browse] button
- Click the [Send File] button and your Wants should be uploaded
Additional Wants functions in the Members Menu
- From your Members Menu you can also complete a purge if you wish to remove all of your current Wants.
- Additionally, instead of keeping track of all matched Wants by email you can view your [Recently Matched Wants].
- In your Members Menu you also have the opportunity to download your Wants list.
Managing Wants through HomeBase
If you are using HomeBase 2.3 or HomeBase 3.0 you can manage your Wants the same way you manage your listings.

Once you have added a Want
Once you have added a Want you will receive an email every time there is a match.
The email will include the link to the book as it is listed on AbeBooks. If the link does not work then the book was most likely already sold.
The link is sent to all buyers with that Want. Therefore there is no guarantee the book will still be listed.
