If you are experiencing difficulties uploading your file to AbeBooks via your data management software (such as HomeBase 2.3) or via FTP, you can perform the following checks:
- Your User ID is entered correctly and in UPPER CASE.
- You have entered your Bookseller Account password correctly. Remember your password is CaSe Sensitive.
- Ensure that your firewall and/or antivirus software is not blocking the connection.
If after performing the above checks you are still unable to upload your file, you can simply upload your files through your Bookseller Members Menu:
1. [Sign On] to your AbeBooks.com bookseller account
2. Click [Uploads] from the Members Menu
3. Then click the [Upload your book file now!] button
4. On the Upload and List Client Pending Files, you will see the following: "What file would you like to send us?" Press the [Browse] button - this will allow you to search your computer and select the file you wish to upload
5. Choose the file to send
6. Finally, click the [Send File] button to transfer a copy of your file to our system
To see the status/progress of your uploaded files:
1. [Sign On] to your AbeBooks.com bookseller account
2. Click [Your Books]
3. Then select [Yesterdays billable listings]
Here you can view the latest upload and if it was processed successfully; ”Listing loaded into database.”
If you have uploaded your books and the file was not successfully processed, it can be due to the following reasons:
- The file has the incorrect extension for your conversion
- The file did not have the correct field order
- More than 25% of your listings had no or invalid prices
You can check that the file you uploaded had the correct extension and ensure it is in the usual field order. If all these appear to be fine, you can upload the file again. Should your file fail to process again, please contact our Customer Service for further assistance.
If your file was processed successfully but you cannot see your books online, this can be due to the following reasons:
- This is your first upload to a new bookseller account
- Your listings were automatically filtered by our system
- The AbeBooks system is experiencing a delay in updating the search results
When you send your first upload as a new bookseller our system sets up several folders and links in your account. Most of these happen within a few minutes of account creation, while a few others may take a few days. Your books are made searchable from Advanced Search within several hours. However, the link to search your books from your account can take a few days to be updated.
If this is not your first upload, you can check if your books were filtered easily by using the Filtered Listings Link on the bottom right hand side of the Members Menu page.
If there are no books filtered, you can check your Searchable Listings vs. the Total Listings. When we have your changes in our database but they have not fully updated to the search you will notice a difference in these two numbers. If you notice your Total Listings number is correct, then please be patient as it can take a full database update to fully index the search results.
To view your Searchable Listings vs. your Total Listings:
